Things to Remember When It Comes to Copper Hood Installation

Whether you’re in the process of remodelling your kitchen to make it a more practical place to cook or you are building a new kitchen in your home, you need to pay very close attention to your copper hood installation.

Installing a range hood can be quite a daunting experience. It requires you work with electricity, have good DIY skills and have someone that can give you a hand. Ideally you should ask the supplier of your copper hood if they have any recommendations for companies that can do the installation for you. This way you are assured that the installation is done to the highest standard, complete with guarantee.

If you decide you want to do the installation yourself, then there are steps that must be taken to ensure your safety and that the copper hood is installed to the highest standard.

The first step is to remove the old hood, if there is one already in place. If it is a new build, you need to measure the area to identify exactly where your new item will sit, taking into consideration the mounting height, leaving at least eighteen to twenty four inches between the hood and cooking surface.

Once the old hood is removed, it’s time to start with its installation. It is best to remove the fan and filters, making the hood easier to work with. Turn off the electricity supply to the home to ensure your safety while you work. If you cannot afford to turn the electricity off to the entire property, ensure you turn off the power to the kitchen to reduce the risk of electrocution.

Make sure you take the time to read through the installation instructions provided with the item. Follow these to the letter to reduce the risk of damaging the item or the item not working properly, which can result in you having to remove it and start from scratch.

Mark where you need the vents to go. Ensure these measurements are correct. The best method is to check your measurements three times to ensure you get the right measurement before you start cutting. Identify the width of the vent and cut to that size, ensuring the vent fits snugly in the space provided.

With the vent holes drilled, you can start installing your copper hood ductwork. Remember to have the shortest distance to the outside, this can improve airflow considerably.

With the duct work in place you will want to measure the holes for the copper hood. Marking them and drilling. You can now screw the copper hood into place.

This is the test time and you will need to connect the electrical as per the supplier’s instructions before turning on your electricity. From here you will want to reattach your fan and filters and turn on the product to ensure it is working as expected.

If at any stage you are unsure, contact your supplier. If you haven’t worked with electrics before, it is important to call in a professional electrician who can complete the work without any risk to you or your family.

When buying copper hoods it’s always advisable to speak directly to the supplier when it comes to installation. They often have companies they can recommend that know their products and have worked extensively with them before, ensuring the copper hood installation goes quickly and without any problems.

Always ensure if you do choose a company to carry out the copper hood installation for you that they provide you with a guarantee on their work, putting your mind at ease.
